Job overview

The Pharmacy Departments within the Trust provide ward based, Dispensary, and Aseptic Dispensing Services to a range of general and specialist areas including Admissions Unit, General Medical and Surgical, Haematology and Oncology and Critical Care wards. We have a good integrated team of Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians and Support Workers and there is a supportive Pharmacy Education and Training team. The Aseptic unit is based at Boole Technology Centre on the Lincolnshire Science & Innovation Park, part of Lincoln University.  Boole Technology Centre is located close to the city centre and has good access to transport links with train and bus stations within walking distance. There is also car parking and bike storage available on site.  The unit is designed to accommodate production of Aseptic products in a purpose built central location.  This Aseptic facility dispenses a range of CIVAS, chemotherapy products, Total Parenteral Nutrition and Clinical Trials.  The unit is currently unlicenced but actively working towards obtaining a Manufacturing Specials Licence to achieve long-term capacity and sustainability. You will be involved in the effective and safe delivery of the Pharmacy Aseptic Service including supervision of the day-to-day workload and training of staff. You will ensure that staff undertake activities following departmental operating procedures and work in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Clinical Practice and Good Distribution Practice.

Main duties of the job

This post will be based at Boole Aseptic Unit, Beevor Street, Lincoln but the successful applicants may need to travel to other sites within the Trust on occasion.

You will need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be confident speaking to patients, nursing staff, prescribers and other health care staff. You will need to have experience working as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or community setting. Experience of using pharmacy specific computer systems such as Ascribe or JAC is desirable.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ/BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
  • Registered as a pharmacy technician/or ability to register as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Evidence of accuracy checking competency (or ability to work towards)

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Experience working as a Pharmacy Technician (or Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician) in a hospital, retail pharmacy, community, or other environment.
  • Experience working with members of public.
