This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly established team and play a key role in the development of an evolving pharmacy service.
This varied and rewarding role offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of pharmacy activities, including medicines procurement, distribution, delivery and medicines module packing. As part of a rota-based service, you will gain valuable experience across multiple areas while supporting the effective and efficient supply of medicines.
The service operates on a shift pattern, and the successful candidate will participate in the rota. There is no requirement for weekend working, providing a positive work-life balance while contributing to an essential healthcare service.
This is an office-based role in our Southampton office, remote working is not available.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Main duties of the job
This role involves undertaking a range of pharmacy support activities, including medicines procurement, stock management, dispensing and preparation of medicines, module packing, distribution and medicines waste management across the Trust.
You will play an important part in delivering an efficient and high-quality pharmacy service, ensuring medicines are supplied safely, accurately and effectively to patients, Trust staff and operational stations. Some aspects of the role may involve direct interaction with patients, requiring a professional and customer-focused approach at all times.
Working as part of a dedicated team, you will contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the pharmacy service while maintaining high standards of accuracy, efficiency and quality.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Receive, manage and distribute medicines across the Trust, including Controlled Drugs (CDs), ensuring safe and secure handling at all times.
- Support compliance with legislative, regulatory and governance requirements relating to medicines management, including Controlled Drugs, clinical trials and unlicensed medicines.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for medicines procurement in line with MHRA regulations and Trust policies.
- Check and inspect deliveries, identifying and escalating any discrepancies, shortages or damages as required.
- Undertake a range of medicines management activities, including packing, labelling and preparing supplies in accordance with Trust licences and procedures.
- Monitor and rotate stock to minimise waste, coordinating the safe disposal of surplus or expired medicines.
- Maintain precise inventory records to support effective stock control and availability of medicines.
- Deliver medicines and pharmacy supplies to designated locations across the Trust, ensuring a reliable and efficient service.

Physical Requirements
Essential
- Valid UK driving licence
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Familiar with computer systems and basic keyboard skills
- Experience of working as a pharmacy or medicines support worker in a healthcare setting
Desirable
- Experience of working in an Ambulance Trust setting
Qualifications and Training
Essential
- 4 GSCE’s including Math and English grade C or above
- Obtained or willingness to work towards NVQ 2 in pharmacy services/pharmacy services assistant or Pharmacy Manufacturing course
Desirable
- Obtained or willingness to work towards a Certificate in Medicines Management for Ambulance Trusts
