Job summary
We have the opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic individual to join the Pharmacy Technical Service team at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust and contribute to the implementation of the Pharmacy Services strategy, striving for excellence to provide the highest standards of care.
The Pharmacy Technical Services team primarily provides aseptic preparation of medicines (including chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, adult and neonatal parenteral nutrition preparation) for patients of the Trust. The main duties include preparation of aseptic products for patients, dispensing of outsourced products, stock management, generating worksheets, and liaising with day case units to support the efficient running of the service to patients.
As well as being motivated and enthusiastic, the successful candidate must able to well work under pressure and as part of a team. Previous experience of working in an Aseptic Services Pharmacy environment is desirable and you will be required to have or be eligible to work towards an NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services.

Main duties of the job
- Assemble and sanitise products for aseptic preparation.
- Aseptically prepare chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, parenteral nutrition and CIVAS.
- Dispense Ready to Administer 'Specials' products.
- Accept prescriptions checking accuracy of patient details.
- Ensure that all information needed for accurate stock control, dose banding and prescription issues data is recorded using both paper systems and the computerised Pharmacy Information System (PIS).
- Liaise with Procurement staff about urgently required medicines, and inform patients and other health care staff about supply problems / delays.
- Dispense specialist hospital-only medicines and unlicensed medicines which require accurate, detailed records.
- Answer the telephone according to Standard Operating Procedures and respond or re-direct calls as necessary.
- Organise and liaise with transport for delivery of medicines off site.
- Take telephone messages for Pharmacy staff recording full details and contact numbers.
- Check and unpack stock requisitions and restock shelves when required.
- Train other staff in reception duties.
- Participate in the induction training of all new Pharmacy staff.
- Daily and weekly cleaning of the Aseptic Suite.
- Contribute to the quality control and environmental monitoring of the Aseptic unit.

Job responsibilities
- Reasonable Standard of Education Preferably grade C/4 or above in maths and English, if not, functional skills level 2.
- NVQ2 in pharmacy services or equivalent qualification or to undertake full NVQ2 in pharmacy services or equivalent training within 15 months.
- Experience in a Pharmacy.
- Evidence of good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Keyboard skills.
- Physically able to perform the duties of the post e.g., performing daily and weekly cleans of the aseptic unit, access stock from high and low shelving.
- Must be able to work methodically and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail. Able to communicate well verbally with other healthcare professionals and patients some of whom may have barriers to understanding. Must be able to deal sensitively with all patients some of whom may be severely ill or distressed by their condition.
