We actively support your development. If you do not already hold a recognised Pharmacy Assistant qualification (for example, Dispensing Assistant or Pharmacy Stock Management), you will be supported to achieve this within your first three months.
Following successful training and competency sign-off, you can progress to Band 3 within approximately 12 months.

Main duties of the job
- Support the receipt, storage, and distribution of medicines and stock
- Supply pharmaceuticals safely to wards, departments, and external customers
- Assist with stock returns, recycling, and disposal in line with agreed processes
- Contribute to the smooth running of a busy dispensary service

Person specification
Knowledge
Essential
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office-Word, excel, PowerPoint)
Desirable
- Understanding of Pharmacy stock control computer system
- Knowledge of Ascribe / JAC pharmacy system
Experience
Essential
- Experience in working with the public and or patients
Desirable
- Previous experience of working in community or hospital pharmacy environment
- Dispensing of medicines
Key Skills
Essential
- Good customer care skills
- Ability to work in a logical and orderly fashion, organising and prioritising workload effectively
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, using initiative and working to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to remain calm and work effectively under pressure and to deadlines
- Ability and willingness to work as part of a team
Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Recognised Pharmacy Assistant (e.g. Dispensing Assistant, Counter Assistant or Pharmacy Stock Management) qualification or willing to undertake this within three months of starting the post.
- Commitment to continuing professional development
- Ability to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills though any of the following: o Evidence of using English and Maths in a previous role o Demonstrated communication and numerical skills during interview

- GCSE in Maths & English (or equivalent)
