The role:

This is a newly established role designed to support sustainable healthcare practices by reducing pharmaceutical waste and improving the effective use of medicines across hospital sites. The postholder will work closely with the Pharmacy Stock Management (PSM) Team and act as a key contact for ward and pharmacy staff to promote sustainable medicines management.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case-by-case basis following interview and during the pre-employment verification process. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, full-time, 36 hours per week

Base location - the following locations are available

Glasgow Royal Infirmary

Queen Elizabeth University Hospital /Royal Hospital for Children

Royal Alexandra Hospital / Inverclyde Royal Hospital

Shift pattern- To be confirmed

Key responsibilities:

  • Review ward and pharmacy stock holdings to identify surplus, slow-moving, or potentially wasted medicines.
  • Support the safe return, redistribution, and reuse of medicines in line with local procedures.
  • Work with ward teams to remove unnecessary stock and optimise medicine storage.
  • Monitor and record medicines waste and sustainability metrics.
  • Support the implementation of Pharmacy Stock Management (PSM) and HEPMA-led initiatives.
  • Build positive working relationships with nursing, pharmacy, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Promote sustainable medicines practices and provide practical support to staff.
  • Travel across wards, departments, and hospital sites as required.
  • Help identify opportunities to reduce medicines waste and improve medicines management processes.
  • Support service improvement initiatives that contribute to environmental and financial sustainability goals.
