Job summary

The pharmacy department are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and reliable member of staff to join the existing pharmacy team. The role of Pharmacy assistant is vital in supporting safe, effective and timely patient care across the hospital by ensuring that medicines are stored, prepared and supplied accurately. This contributes to the smooth running of clinical services and the wellbeing of patients.

You will join a friendly and supportive team, working alongside pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other assistants that are willing to help, share knowledge, and work together to solve problems.

Previous experience in working in a Dispensary or pharmacy is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. Taking on a role as a pharmacy services assistant is an excellent way of starting your career in hospital pharmacy.

Main duties of the job

This position would rotate between dispensary and stores/distribution role. The successful applicant will be expected to cover all of the following aspects within the department:

To accept deliveries into the department and process in line with trust policy

To assist in the provision of a ward top-up service

To ensure accurate stock control of medicines and maintain the replenishment of sundries

Accurately and efficiently dispense and label medicines for Royal Papworth patients

Customer service -- greeting and assisting patients and staff who present to the department

You will be required to work closely with other members of the pharmacy team, to help deliver an efficient and effective pharmacy service to the hospital.

To successfully complete the relevant units of the NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Services course

To participate in weekend, bank holiday and late evening duties

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ L2 Pharmacy Services award or equivalent (as recognised by GPhC) (Or willingness to work towards)
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade A-C) or equivalent qualification

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within a pharmacy environment
