Pharmacy@UHB Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary company of University Hospitals Birmingham, which was established in 2011. We provide a pharmacy service for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) and Heartlands Hospital Birmingham (BHH).
We provide a service to the out-patients and in-patients, due to be discharged, at both hospitals and operate in a manner akin to a community pharmacy
We are currently recruiting for a pharmacy counter assistant to join the team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site. The role would involve greeting patients; sales of over the counter medicines in the Outpatient Pharmacy; administration of the prescription tracking system and other general administration and stock control roles.
Previous pharmacy experience preferred but not essential - good customer service experience is a must. We offer an excellent environment within which to learn the fundamentals or further develop pharmacy skills, with the possibility of progressing to Pharmacy Dispenser for those which show particular aptitude.
Greet patients and visitors warmly, addressing inquiries about pharmacy services and OTC products. Guide OTC purchases, ensuring proper advice under supervision. Facilitate OTC medicine sales to outpatients, using appropriate questioning to determine needs and adhere to regulations. Ensure patients understand usage and precautions.
Manage prescription tracking, informing patients of waiting times, and handle related admin duties. Assist with inventory by stocking shelves and keeping an organised workspace. Monitor OTC stock levels, report shortages, and help with reordering. Ensure items are priced accurately and within expiry dates.
Manage paperwork, patient records, and maintain a tidy, safe counter area. Uphold confidentiality standards. Work closely with pharmacists and team members to support outpatient and discharge services. Assist during peak times and provide flexible team support as needed.
