
Job overview
To assist with the smooth running of the daily activities in the receipt of requests for medicines and information relating to the supply of medicines. Provide assistance to other pharmacy staff working within their work area. To undertake planned work supported by the provision of clear standard operating procedures under the supervision of the Dispensary Manager. A structured, competency-based scheme will support the post holder.
Main duties of the job
Support the Pharmacy Dispensary by:
- Providing a meet and greet/information function to patients, staff and visitors. Upholding Trust values and meeting GDPR standards.
- Receiving physical and electronic prescriptions from patients and healthcare professionals.
- Monitoring the Trusts electronic prescribing dashboard, printing electronic prescriptions and supply requests.
- Monitoring and tracking the Pharmacy departments workflow by using the PTS tracker, ensuring that all bar coding and recording of work if correct.
- Undertaking 'point of dispensing' checks for patient eligibility for free prescriptions.
- Collecting prescription charges.
- Ensure the patient waiting room meets very good patient experience standards.
- Answer phone enquiries relating to the supply of medicines.
- Provide a courteous, prompt and accurate response to personal and telephone enquiries into the department.

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

- Previous (recent) experience working in a reception job role.
- Previous (recent) experience working in a pharmacy (e.g Saturday/vacation work)
Planning Skills
Essential
- Able to work during the normal working week, extended hours, weekends and bank holidays.
Knowledge and Training
Essential
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
Desirable
- IT literate, use of databases, Microsoft etc.
Qualifications and Education
Essential
- GCSE (or Equivalent) in Maths and English grade C or above.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Services or Unit accreditation within specailsied area, and/or equivalent experience, e.g., validated training as Pharmacy Assistant.
