We are looking for a Pharmacy Assistant (Distribution) to join our team.

Our Pharmacy Assistant (Distribution) will provide stock medicines and other pharmacy-supplied items to wards and departments.

You will receive goods delivered to the pharmacy department, including bulk IV fluids and to replenish stocks of medicines and other items held in distribution and in the automated dispensing system.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as part of the Distribution Team to: -
  • Process stock requests from wards in EPIC (computer system) and generate a picking list
  • pick items required and assemble medicine orders ensuring that the items picked match those items requested
  • pack and address completed medicine orders for transportation / distribution to the correct destination
  • To provide, as required, a bulk IV fluids ‘top-up’ service to designated wards and departments. Check stock levels against an agreed list and ensure efficient delivery of the required stock.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Perform routine cycle counts of stock to ensure any discrepancies are identified, investigated and rectified promptly
  • Undertake regular date-checking of pharmacy stock and ensure appropriate stock rotation takes place
  • Maintain as required, the main IV fluids store, ensuring effective stock control and ordering stock where necessary.
  • Liaise with purchasing staff about the availability of out-of-stock medicines / pharmaceutical sundries to ensure the completion of outstanding orders
  • Monitor drug storage conditions e.g. refrigerator temperatures to maintain efficacy and compliance with product requirements and report any discrepancies.
  • Answer routine queries and resolve straightforward problems from wards / specialties e.g. availability of stock; discrepancies with orders
  • Ensure pharmacy items are available for collection by Trust Transport staff drivers, liaising with other Distribution staff where necessary. Ensure appropriate documentation is completed to establish an effective audit trail.
  • Arrange the delivery of urgent or missed community orders via the Transport Service
  • Deliver pharmacy stock items and prescriptions to wards and departments at Torbay Hospital, ensuring that appropriate documentation is completed to establish an effective audit trail.
  • Receive and unpack goods supplied to the pharmacy department. Process appropriate documentation, and record accurately and promptly all necessary details (both manual and in EPIC) to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Put away medicines and other items received from suppliers into designated locations in the department, including the Automated Dispensing System, ensuring compliance with storage conditions and effective rotation of stocks.
