A pharmacy assistant apprentice is employed on a fixed term Apprentice Agreement for 15 months. This contract is designed to give you a set of competencies, work experience and a qualification that could lead to permanent employment within our pharmacy department.

Main duties of the job

The core learning elements covered in this apprenticeship are:

Duties within the role include:

  • Dispensing and supply of medicines.
  • Reception and customer services duties
  • Visiting wards and departments and maintaining appropriate drug stock levels
  • Collecting and delivering medicines to and from wards and departments

Through your working practices you will apply respect and confidentiality, work well in a team, be courteous and professional, maintain a safe working environment, contribute to the safeguarding of patients, working accurately when preparing and dispensing medicines.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 15 months due to this being an apprenticeship/training programme. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.

A learner/applicant must be a UK, EEA, or EU resident for at least the past three years to undertake an apprenticeship training programme.

The apprentice allowance as specified in the Minimum Wage Regulations will be paid for the first 12 months.  The rate will increase after 12 months in line with these regulations for anyone that is age 19 or over.

When completing your application please ensure that you clearly demonstrate how you meet the role criteria.

You will complete a 15-month training program and as part of your apprenticeship you will study for the Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant qualification.

The Apprenticeship will be undertaken in collaboration with Bradford College. This is through distance learning and on the job training therefore you are not required to attend college.

You must also complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your learning and skills in practice in accordance with the apprenticeship framework.

Essential

  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience with using computer systems including Microsoft packages or equivalent level of ability.
  • Experienced in effective communication with others.

Desirable

  • Experience of dealing with the public/customer service.

Essential

  • Demonstrate positive attitudes and behaviours, dealing with people, problems and situations with honesty and integrity, respecting diversity.
  • Commitment to undertake and complete learning activities, which form part of the role and apprenticeship qualifications, including the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Pharmacy competency training package.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to form positive relationships.
  • Evidence that you can prioritise tasks

Desirable

  • Evidence that you can work independently using own initiative.
  • Evidence that you could concentrate for long periods and work under pressure.
  • Ability to deal with verbal aggression constructively.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE English and Maths Level 1 Functional Skills or equivalent, GCSE grade 2/3 (D or E) or above or equivalent qualification
