Job overview

This 12-month Advanced Clinical Training Fellowship in Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders is designed for post-CCT or peri-CCT neurology trainees wishing to develop advanced expertise in the diagnosis and management of Parkinson’s disease and complex movement disorders. The fellowship will provide comprehensive exposure to specialist outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary team working, advanced therapeutics and research opportunities within a tertiary neuroscience service.

The post-holder will gain advanced clinical experience in Parkinson’s disease, atypical parkinsonian syndromes, tremor disorders, dystonia, ataxia, Huntington’s disease and functional movement disorders. Training opportunities will include exposure to advanced therapies such as apomorphine therapy, levodopa intestinal gel therapy and botulinum toxin services. There will be opportunities to gain experience in deep brain stimulation assessment pathways.

The fellowship is structured around Advanced Clinical Fellowship Capabilities in Practice (CiPs) and is intended to provide training beyond that expected within the standard UK Neurology curriculum.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work closely with consultant neurologists, Parkinson’s disease specialist nurses,  physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and allied health professionals.

The post will also support participation in audit, quality improvement, teaching and research activities, with opportunities to contribute to national movement disorder clinical trials.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to clinical governance activities.
  • Participate in departmental educational meetings and journal clubs.
