We are inviting applications to fill our Paediatric Simulation Fellow vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Paediatrics This post will commence March 2027 and is fixed term for 1 year. Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice by the intended start date.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated trainee Paediatrician (ST4 or above) with an interest in service development and simulation to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as one of two Paediatric Simulation Fellows for Leeds Children's Hospital (LCH). The Simulation Fellows organise, run and feedback weekly simulation sessions in different departments, as well as supporting regional courses. The Simulation Fellows will greatly develop their teaching and management skills, with the opportunity to access further training. They will gain experience in leadership and service development. There is also the opportunity to work on relevant quality improvement projects which can change practice at LCH.

Why you should join our Team
Leeds Children's Hospital has an annual budget of £103 million, inpatient bed base of 286 beds, and delivers 102,000 outpatient appointments and 20,000 inpatient and day case episodes. The majority of this activity is on the Leeds General Infirmary Site, however there is a Neonatal Unit based on the St James's Hospital Site.
As well as General Paediatric Medicine, LCH provides subspeciality care (Oncology, Hepatology and Cardiology among others), Neonatology and General/Specialist Paediatric Surgery.
The Simulation Team work across all these areas and we also work with other departments such as Maternity and Emergency Medicine. We have worked hard to create strong working relationships across LCH and good teamwork across the MDT is integral to what we do. We also have a focus on quality improvement and using simulation to learn from incidents.
What you will bring to the role
The Simulation Fellows role will include:
Running regular in-situ simulation sessions across LCH including the MDT and provide debrief and feedback following the sessions and disseminate learning points to the wider departments.
Helping with induction in particular skills teaching sessions.
Working with the other sim fellows in the trust to create some collaborative sessions, team working and improve interdepartmental working.
Attending human factors and debrief training
Acting as Education Leads for Junior Doctors Forum and work with the chair and co-chair of the JDF
Helping on regional sim courses YIPS and HELP which have sessions run in Leeds
Involvement in quality improvement in LCH
Attend the deteriorating child meetings to feedback about simulation programme.
Delivering on call commitment in General Paediatrics or Neonatology.
