We currently have a permanent role for an exciting opportunity with the inpatient phlebotomy service Band 3 Phlebotomist to join our dedicated and caring team within Children’s outpatients
A venepuncture qualification is essential. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about providing exceptional care to children and young people.
This phlebotomy role covers children from 0-18 years old and will cover children in the inpatient wards and those coming to outpatient clinics. We are looking for personable, friendly staff who can put children and their carers at ease whilst taking their bloods.
Working days are Monday through to Sunday and there may be some travel to other satellite paediatric clinics in South Bristol and Weston General Hospital. Role to start with effect from the 1st January 2027

Key Requirements to Apply: We are looking for individuals who are eager to learn, have excellent communication skills, and a positive, can-do attitude.
To be shortlisted for this role, you must clearly demonstrate on your application the following:
Maths qualification at GCSE A*-C / 4-9 or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.
- English qualification at GCSE A*-C / 4-9 or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.
- Level 3 qualification (or higher) in any subject.
- Phlebotomy experience
- Experience or a passion for working with children and young people.
You will need to provide evidence of your educational qualification before your invitation to interview is confirmed.

Essential
- Demonstrate competence in clinical skills relevant to the clinical area
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate effectively with patients, carers and MDT
- Computer skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Act in a professional manner
- Self motivated
- A team player
- Recognition of own limits
- Ability to steady a patient (arm holding) to prevent needle stick injury
- Exposure to bloods
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Broad knowledge and experience of clinical nursing practice within a hospital environment
- Phlebotomy Experience
- To attend MAYBO healthcare conflict training and updates
- Good Concentration skills to provide venapunture in unpredictable client group
- Providing a service to anxious patients/families for client groups with chronic or terminal conditions
Desirable
- Experience working with Children
- Paediatric Phlebotomy experience
Training & Qualification
Essential
- One of the following •- Level 3 qualificaiton (which could include: Level 3 (SCQF – 6): City and Guilds 3; NVQ 3; BTEC National Diploma or Experience; Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (that maps to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker) OR equivalent experience to the above qualifications
- GCSE A*- C/4 to 9 in English Language or equivalent (e.g. Certificate in Adult Literacy at Level 1) and GCSE A* - C or equivalent in Mathematics (e.g. Certificate in Adult Numeracy at Level 2)
Desirable
- Healthcare Science Assistants (Level 2 - Phlebotomy Speciality)
