Specialised Medicine has a vacancy for a Paediatric Phlebotomist.  We require an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join the team within this busy department.  The post involves day to day participation in delivering a high quality, caring and efficient phlebotomy service for 0 -16 year olds.

The successful candidate will be required to work 5 days a week, both alone and as part of the team. The role includes working within the Phlebotomy department, as well as other areas of the hospital. Experience of performing paediatric phlebotomy by venepuncture is essential.

Main duties of the job

As part of a team of phlebotomists, the post holder will assist in the provision of a child focused phlebotomy service, working within our  Outpatient Departments and across other wards and departments.

The Phlebotomist is required to collect blood samples by venepuncture and capillary methods from both inpatients and outpatients.

There is a requirement for the Phlebotomist to take HIGH RISK venous samples (HIV hepatitis A, B and C) in the normal course of their duty.

To perform venepuncture and capillary sampling on children and neonates with minimal supervision/unsupervised.

Identify the analytical requirements from the request form and take appropriate specimens of either venous, capillary blood or heel prick tests.
