The role:

Due to a service change within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Orthotist to specialise in paediatric orthotics as part of an experienced and motivated paediatric orthotic service team. Based at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, the post offers the opportunity to work within a specialist paediatric service covering local, regional, national and specialist services. The role is supported by dedicated Paediatric Rehabilitation Technicians and on-site technical facilities, enabling high-quality clinical care and orthotic provision.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, Full-time

Shift pattern - 07:30-17:30 or 08:30-16:30 Monday - Friday

Base location - Royal Hospital for Children

Key responsibilities:

• Deliver specialist paediatric orthotic services across local, regional, national and specialist service areas.
• Manage an independent clinical caseload.
• Assess, design, supply and review orthotic interventions for paediatric patients.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, Rehabilitation Technicians, patients and families.
• Demonstrate problem-solving and innovative approaches to patient care.
• Provide education and support to patients, families and colleagues.
• Maintain a commitment to continuous professional development and ongoing learning.
• Build positive and compassionate relationships with children and their families.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential:

• Degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics, or equivalent qualification.
• HCPC registration.
• Experience working in paediatrics.
• Proficient orthotic rectification skills.
• Ability to manage an independent caseload.
• Strong problem-solving and innovative thinking skills.
• Commitment to education, learning and professional development.
• Compassionate approach with strong family relationship skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

This post requires membership of Disclosure Scotland’s PVG Scheme

Desirable:

• Experience in:
• Upper limb trauma management
• Cerebral Palsy (CP)
• Spinal conditions
• Chest wall conditions
• Craniofacial conditions
• KAFO, HKAFO and RGO management (Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses, Hip-Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses and Reciprocating Gait Orthoses)
