Job overview

As an Orthoptist working as part of the orthoptic/ophthalmic team, you will provide orthoptic care to a paediatric and adult caseload, liaising closely with ophthalmic, nursing and administrative colleagues.  You will provide support to junior staff members as well as play an active role in the teaching and supervision of undergraduate orthoptic students. The job requires cross site working between Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole.

Main duties of the job

  • Independently assess, diagnose, and manage patients with a wide range of ocular motility disorders, amblyopia, strabismus, and visual function problems.
  • Undertake specialist orthoptic assessments for paediatric, adult, and special needs patients.
  • Contribute to extended roles such as stroke, neuro-ophthalmology, or low vision clinics (depending on service needs and training).
  • Provide orthoptic input into multidisciplinary clinics (e.g., Paediatric ophthalmology, maxillofacial, neurology).
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records in line with Trust and HCPC requirements.
