Job overview

Support the oral health improvement practitioners to deliver and monitor a range of evidence-based oral health improvement interventions primarily in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. This will enable the Service to deliver its obligations and performance targets with respect to service delivery, working closely with front-line staff and other stakeholders.

To communicate effectively, persuade and influence colleagues and staff from other agencies to build capacity to embed oral health improvement into daily practice to reduce oral health inequalities.

Provide high quality administrative support to the Healthy Smile Team.

This post would be well suited to a GDC registered dental nurse or someone working in education health or social care who has a strong passion for community based oral health improvement.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide high-quality support to all members of the Healthy Smile Team. Assisting with the delivery of key oral health improvement programmes including; Brushing 4 Life, Brilliant Brushers supervised toothbrushing programme, Care to Smile, and workforce training and other events and campaigns as required.
  • To proactively contribute to the delivery of the Oral Health Improvement Service embracing the concepts within national and local priorities and targets.
  • To develop skills to provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to carers, health visitors, and other professionals, to promote understanding of oral health and to ensure a consistent approach to delivery of the key oral health messages.
  • To coordinate and manage the availability of oral health resources and raise and receipt orders when required.
  • To prepare and deliver resources to different settings.
  • To support the delivery of campaigns and events in various locations.
  • To ensure timely completion of monitoring data as requested by the line manager in order to monitor delivery of oral health interventions.
  • To remain fully updated on national policy, NICE, NHSE/I and OHID guidance and policies and developments in oral health and the evidence base supporting relevant general health and oral health improvement programmes, in order to ensure evidence based practice.
  • To be responsible for equipment and resources, used in carrying out duties.
