We are offering an exciting opportunity for Superintendent Therapeutic Radiographer to join our team in a forward thinking radiotherapy department at Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff until March 31st 2027
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting service development, workforce leadership, and the implementation of innovative clinical and operational improvements. Working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, they will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of radiotherapy services across multiple sites, while contributing to the strategic direction and continued evolution of the service.

Main duties of the job
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and dynamic radiotherapy professional to join our leadership team on a temporary basis until 31 March 2027 as an Operational Superintendent Radiographer. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop key operational areas within the Radiotherapy Service, including QA and the Radiotherapy Booking process , whilst ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, quality, and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide operational and professional leadership for the radiotherapy pre-treatment pathway which includes capacity planning, QA and pathway optimisation .
- Lead, motivate, and develop staff and students through recruitment, induction, supervision, objective setting, appraisal, and performance management processes.
- Ensure the safe, accurate, and effective delivery of radiotherapy services in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, professional standards, and national guidance.
- Oversee patient booking and scheduling pathways, supporting timely access to treatment and effective coordination of patient care.
- Work flexibly across more than one site to meet service demands and maintain operational resilience.
- Contribute to service planning, governance, workforce development, and the achievement of departmental and organisational objectives.
- Take part in oncall.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
- B.Sc. (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or Diploma of College of Radiographers DCR (T)
- Registration with Health Care Professions Council
- Evidence of CPD (continuing professional development) gained through short courses at Masters level or equivalent
- Full knowledge of radiation regulations
- A highly specialised and detailed knowledge and understanding of principles and concepts underpinning the broad range and the more specialist applications and techniques used in radiotherapy
- Knowledge of current oncology issues including national guidelines
- Knowledge and understanding of principles and concepts underpinning applications and techniques used in radiotherapy
Desirable
- Evidence of further study to Masters Level
- Knowledge of COSHH and H & S regulations
- Leadership or management studies/ qualification
- Knowledge of research and development
- Understanding of the NHS in Wales
