Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor

Job summary

As an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor (OTTI) at The Brook, you will be a key member of the Occupational Therapy team, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults during their inpatient admission.

Working under the supervision of Occupational Therapists, you will use practical, technical and creative skills to plan and deliver person-centred therapeutic activities and delegated OT interventions. You will support people to develop skills, confidence and independence in areas that matter to them, including daily living, routines, meaningful activity, sensory regulation, community participation and preparation for discharge.

A key part of the role is building positive therapeutic relationships and finding creative ways to support engagement. You will observe how people respond to activities, adapt your approach to meet individual communication, sensory and support needs, and provide feedback to Occupational Therapists to help evaluate and develop interventions.

You will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, families and care providers, and may model approaches and practical strategies to others.

We are looking for someone who is practical, creative, organised and compassionate, with strong communication and problem-solving skills and a genuine interest in enabling people to participate in meaningful everyday life.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include:

• Planning and delivering delegated occupational therapy interventions and meaningful activities, both individually and in groups, under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist.
• Supporting people to develop independence and participation in everyday activities, including self-care, daily living skills, routines, leisure, community access and preparation for discharge.
• Using practical, creative and technical skills to develop activities around each persons goals, strengths, interests and needs.
• Building therapeutic relationships and adapting communication and activities for people with different communication, sensory and learning needs.
• Observing and recording how people participate and respond, sharing this with the Occupational Therapist and contributing to the evaluation and adaptation of interventions.
• Supporting sensory and regulation approaches and the safe use of therapeutic equipment.
• Working alongside the wider multidisciplinary team, families and care providers, including modelling practical approaches and strategies.
• Maintaining accurate clinical records and contributing to service development, audits and quality improvement.
