An opportunity has arisen for an experienced therapist (occupational or physio) to join the multi-disciplinary assistive technology team based within the TORT Centre at Ninewells Hospital. This is a full-time permanent position.
The Assistive Technology Service provides long-term wheelchair and mobile seating solutions to people from across Tayside and is critical to supporting independent living and improving quality of life for people with mobility and postural needs.
As a key member of the clinical team the therapist will assess a patient for a wheelchair and postural support suitable for their needs. They will be expected to review and advise on seating solutions in conjunction with the patient, carers and other healthcare specialists. The therapist will hold a full clinical caseload and carry out appointments in Acute facilities on wards, as out-patients in scheduled clinics, in specialist schools, care homes and in patient’s homes across Tayside
The successful candidate will be highly experienced as a therapist and able to provide evidence of recent practice either in the NHS or private healthcare. Experience within an assistive technology or postural specialisation is an advantage but training will be given in assistive technology to the appropriate candidate. An ability to learn quickly and adapt to new skills is vital. Importantly the therapist must be able to work closely with patients and carers and have an ability to understand the complex needs of individuals.
The ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams, including liaising with specialist rehabilitation engineers is essential. There is an expectation that the highest standards of patient care and healthcare practices can be demonstrated. An awareness of practical Health and Safety and working within Quality Management Systems will be necessary for the role. Competency will be demonstrated through evidence of qualifications, and formal interview.
