We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our inpatient forensic service. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist multidisciplinary team supporting working-age adults with complex mental health and forensic needs on their recovery journey.
As an experienced Occupational Therapist, you will utilise your professional knowledge, evidence-based practice models, and specialist assessment skills to deliver high-quality occupational therapy interventions within a secure forensic setting.

Main duties of the job
You will be part of a friendly and supportive team based within a medium and low secure forensic environment. You will provide comprehensive occupational therapy assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation for individuals receiving inpatient forensic care.
You will support service users with complex presentations, including, personality disorders, mental illness, learning disabilities and/or neurodiversity.
The role is focused on promoting recovery, enhancing independence, and supporting successful transitions from inpatient services into the community. You will work collaboratively with inpatient and community forensic teams to ensure integrated, person-centred care planning and rehabilitation pathways.
The role is particularly suited to an individual who is passionate about progressing their clinical career, gaining specialist experience, and embracing new challenges within forensic mental health.

- HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist
- Experience working at Band 5 or Band 6
- Strong communication and team-working skills

Experience
Essential
- Completed preceptorship programme
- Appropriate knowledge/experience of working in the relevant service area
- Understanding of caseload management clinical responsibilities
Desirable
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area
- Evidence of specialist practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
- Evidence of promoting/supporting active user/carer involvement/participation
Skills and Competencies
Essential
- Able to demonstrate effective inter-personal/communication skills
- Evidence of good time management skills
- Work within the culture of improving working lives and working time directive
- Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity
- Ability to commute between the various sites
- Mandatory training to support safe practice and the management of violence and aggression
- Manoeuvres patients/service-user and or equipment
- Requirement of frequent concentration e.g., assessments, care plans
- Provide working hours to support the service needs

- Working knowledge of Trust policies and procedures

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential
- HCPC registered Occupational Therapist
- A broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical practice and service
- Specialist knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice, standardised assessments, and their use in practice
- knowledge and understanding of the evidence-based relevant to the clinical area
- Basic IT skills
- Experienced and competent practice educator with up to date SLiP training
Desirable
- Evidence of current CPD/formal qualifications at an advanced level e.g. degree or post graduate level or equivalent knowledge/experiential learning
- Registration within the specialist RCOT sections
