Exciting Opportunity for an enthusiastic Band 6 Occupational Therapist!

Langley Green Hospital in Crawley is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Band 6 Occupational Therapist with experience of working with people with mental health difficulties to join our dynamic Acute OT Therapies Team. The role is 30 hours per week.

You will take a lead for one of our wards and be responsible for providing specialist occupational therapy assessment, treatment planning, and 1:1 and group interventions to adults with acute mental health needs, taking a recovery-focused approach.

You will be an integral part of the ward multidisciplinary team and play a key role in contributing to safe and effective discharges.

Main duties of the job

• You will provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and interventions using evidence-based, client-centred approaches to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, with an emphasis on relapse prevention, establishment of meaningful routines, and promotion of recovery.
• In collaboration with the ward MDT and patient's families, carers and support networks, you will take a pivotal role in discharge planning for patients, ensuring a smooth, timely transition back into the community. The role includes some OT assessments in home environments to identify OT interventions, equipment and support needs as part of discharge planning. Group work is an important aspect of the Therapeutic Programme at Langley Green Hospital. The role includes psychoeducational and therapeutic group facilitation and involvement in the development and coordination of the programme.
• You will provide clinical supervision and leadership support to others in the OT team, including band 5 OTs, OT clinical support workers, activity worker support staff, lived experience recovery workers, and OT students, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
• There is an expectation to be involved in projects and service developments happening within the team, giving opportunity to develop both your own skills and to contribute to continuous service improvements.

• Operate as a senior occupational therapy practitioner and manage an appropriate complex clinical caseload.
• Promote evidence-based practice in occupational therapy.
• Provide a specialised range of clinical interventions and demonstrate knowledge of models of practice.
• Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of interventions.
• Provide clinical assessment, formulation, intervention and review.
• Contribute to the development of multi-disciplinary best practice clinical guidelines and protocols.
• Have a basic working knowledge of the medication prescribed for the persons in their care.
• Supervise the work of more junior qualified staff and provide support and guidance.
• Ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards and to provide specialist occupational therapy reports relevant to the practice setting.
• To adhere to Trust risk management policies and procedures.
• To champion occupational and recovery approaches within the service area.
• Be aware of and able to use de-escalation techniques and physical breakaway
• Ensure effective communication with all parts of the service, other agencies and people who use services and their carers
