The Occupational therapy service within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join one of our Community Mental Health Team. This role offers an opportunity to deliver high‑quality, recovery‑focused occupational therapy to adults with complex mental health needs across Cardiff and the Vale. You will work closely within a multidisciplinary team to complete specialist occupational therapy assessments, develop strengths‑based intervention plans, and support individuals to engage in meaningful occupations, promote independence, and enhance wellbeing. The post sits within a supportive service that values reflective practice, supervision, and continuous professional development.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

This role plays a key part in delivering high‑quality, recovery‑focused occupational therapy services to adults with complex and enduring mental health needs within the community. You will be working as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Specialist Occupational Therapy Assessment and InterventionUndertake comprehensive, evidence‑based occupational therapy assessments and interventions addressing occupational performance, functional ability,  and environmental factors, to inform formulation and recovery planning.
  • Multidisciplinary Team WorkingWork collaboratively within the CMHT providing occupational therapy expertise to MDT discussions, care planning, and reviews.
  • Care Coordination and Contribution to CPAWhere appropriate, act as or contribute to care coordination and Care Programme Approach (CPA) processes, ensuring occupational perspectives are embedded in holistic care plans.
  • Leadership and Professional ResponsibilityTake responsibility for own caseload, prioritising effectively, and providing day‑to‑day support and supervision to other staff members
  • Service Development and Quality ImprovementContributing to all aspects of service development
  • Professional DevelopmentActively engage in supervision, appraisal, reflective practice, and continuing professional development to maintain and enhance clinical competence and professional knowledge.
