Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Adult Physical Health team. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of settings including acute hospital wards, rehabilitation services, community teams and patients' homes, supporting adults with a wide range of physical health needs.

Main duties of the job

The Band 6 Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing a high-quality Occupational Therapy Service within Adult Physical Health across inpatient, community and home-based settings. The post holder will manage a defined caseload of adults with a range of physical health needs, including those with complex presentations, using evidence-based and person-centred approaches to assessment, intervention, rehabilitation and discharge planning.

Working under the supervision of an Advanced Band 7 Occupational Therapist, the post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and may rotate across a range of clinical areas, including acute medical, surgical, orthopaedic, inpatient rehabilitation and community services. The role requires autonomous practice, effective clinical reasoning, and collaboration with service users, carers and partner agencies to achieve agreed outcomes and promote independent living.

The post holder will contribute to the delivery, development and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy Service, support the supervision and education of students and junior staff, and uphold professional, organisational, and regulatory standards inline with HSC policies, procedures and CARE Values.

Job responsibilities

Responsibility for Patient/Service User Care

To manage a defined caseload, using evidence-based practice and client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions focusing on agreed goals.

To work in a flexible way, adapting the service to meet the changing needs of service users from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds.

To adhere to and apply the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for Occupational Therapists.

Provide supervision for junior staff and facilitate professional development with Occupational Therapy Assistants and Occupational Therapy students.

To have an active role in education of staff through in-service training, multi disciplinary training programmes, IHSCS programmes, OT student training and work experience; and to work in an education role with other staff groups and with the wider multidisciplinary team and outside agencies/charities.

Have a commitment to working within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) by collaboratively working with professional colleagues to provide a high standard of multi-disciplinary service.

To work autonomously, recognising changes in patients'/service users' presentation which require intervention, knowing when to escalate as appropriate.

To guide, advise and direct other staff in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of specialised patient/service user care.

To promote patient/service user involvement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care, respecting their beliefs and dignity.
