The post holder will be based at the Children Centre, Princess Of Wales Hospital , however will have opportunity to work across our other site's delivering robust intervention to a complex and varied caseload.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based at Children Centre, Princess of Wales Hospital , however will be required to work across other health authority sites, and will be required to work in a variety of community settings: clinic, schools, nurseries, client’s homes.

The post holder will manage a complex and varied caseload, assessing, identifying, planning and providing highly specialist occupational therapy (OT) interventions for children with disabilities/developmental problems.

The post holder will implement the treatment plan with autonomy; taking sole responsibility for the patient’s safety when undertaking home visits/school and community work, and maintain clinical records in accordance with legal requirements and professional standards.

The post holder will provide leadership for junior staff, support staff and contribute to their development, as a delegated supervisor and regularly supervise OT students on practice placement.

They will work in partnership across the primary/secondary care interface with voluntary organisations, local authority and other appropriate health and social care sectors.

Annex 21

This is a training and development role under Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions. The post holder will be required to undertake up to an 18 month development/competency programme upon commencement of this role, with an aim to attain specific competencies, skills, knowledge and experience in this field.

Completion of the identified qualification/experience is a requirement of the contract of employment.

During this training period, salary will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Terms and Conditions as follows : Months 1 - 12 of the training period will be paid at 70% of the top of Band 6 pay scale, Months 13 - 18 of the training period will be paid at 75% of the top of Band 6 pay scale.

NOTE : There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary. To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations. Following this training, the remuneration will be the bottom of Band 6, again without financial detriment.

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. Whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means being able to communicate in Welsh during routine clinical situations, such as welcoming patients, discussing straightforward aspects of their care and answering routine questions.
