Job overview

We are looking for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist wishing to take their next steps on the career ladder and looking for a new challenge. The individual needs to be proactive and enthusiastic and will be joining the Orthopaedic Team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The post holder working as part of an integrated team will work as an autonomous practitioner to provide a high standard of intervention across the speciality.

This integrated team is committed to providing highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients within the wide variety of acute medical and surgical wards. You will be required to work alongside your colleagues as an independent practitioner in applying a high level of clinical reasoning to ensure individualised, proactive and holistic assessment and treatment planning.

Main duties of the job

As a member of both the integrated rehabilitation service and the multidisciplinary teams on the wards, excellent skills in communication are essential.

As a Band 6 therapist you will be supporting and developing rotational Band 5 therapists.  The role also involves supervising therapy support staff and educating therapy students on placement.

There will be opportunities for innovation and an expectation that you will be actively involved in relevant quality improvement projects to develop the Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Team.

The integrated Rehabilitation Service aims to provide a progressive, forward thinking approach to patient care whilst able to support its staff in personal development and continued education and training.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates experience of working within NHS orthopaedic services
  • Shows evidence of a broad range of NHS experience working as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team

Desirable

  • Has a range of Occupational Therapy clinical experience which includes working in an acute setting and completing home/environmental assessments

Skills, abilities and knowledge

Essential

  • Clinical reasoning skills
  • Good knowledge of neurology, human anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of appropriate equipment to enhance engagement in occupation
  • Ability to prioritise and delegate workload and work in a pressurised working environment
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of role of Occupational Therapy in rehabilitation

Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge and application of Occupational Therapy Assessments and Interventions including Standardised Assessments and current evidence-based practice
  • Management of a varied acute caseload with patients with complex multi-morbidities and frailty

Qualifications/training and professional development

Essential

  • B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy (3 year) or M.Sc. in Occupational Therapy (2 year) or Diploma in Occupational Therapy (3 year)
  • Health and Care Professions Council registration
  • Current driving licence

Desirable

  • Practice Educator Course and ability to supervise under-graduate Occupational Therapists.
  • RCOT membership
