Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist nursing care for patients requiring enteral and parenteral nutrition support across inpatient and community settings.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate complex nutrition support programmes, ensuring safe, evidence-based and patient-centred care.
- Provide expert advice, education and support to patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals.
- Manage and troubleshoot feeding tubes, central venous access devices and nutrition-related complications.
- Support patients transitioning from hospital to home, coordinating discharge planning and ongoing care arrangements.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including consultants, dietitians, pharmacists, community teams and primary care colleagues.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of nutrition-related education and training programmes across the Trust and externally.
- Participate in service development, quality improvement, audit, research and clinical governance activities to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.
- Develop and maintain clinical guidelines, policies and protocols relating to artificial nutrition support.
- Manage a varied caseload autonomously while ensuring patients are reviewed within agreed standards and timescales.
