Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a HCSW to join a team of experienced nurses working on our busy Acute Medical Unit, which also looks after patients who have  multiple acute medical problems.

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills, under the supervision of qualified nurses, caring for patients who are acutely ill with medical conditions. This unit is a busy area that provides an excellent opportunity to deal with patients in a short-term care environment.

Hospital experience is desirable but not essential. The post is rotational between day and night duty.

Main duties of the job

Your role will consist of assisting  and supporting the Registered Nurses to deliver excellent patient centred care.

The Unit is fast paced and dynamic. We accept patients from ED and directly from GP where their conditions can be unpredictable.

You will be expected to work to a Band 3 job description, full training will be given but experience as a HCSW is essential.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable at Level 3 Speaking/Listening (or ‘B1’ Level if you’ve learnt Welsh as an adult). This doesn’t mean you have to be fluent or able to write long reports in Welsh; it just means being able to hold simple conversations with patients. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30-minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements.
