Job overview

This Nursing Support Worker role will be based at Tenby Surgery and undertake a range of nursing duties under supervision of the Clinical Lead GP/ Practice Nurse/Nurse manager. This post is part-time for 30 hours per week over various hours Mon-Fri 0800-1830.

On occasion you maybe asked to work from other health board run practices.

The successful applicant will have a good understanding of the NSW role in a Primary Care setting or a General Medical Services provider as well as carry out appropriate care/treatment in conjunction with General Practitioners, Practice Nurses and other clinical staff or independently in accordance with national guidelines, Health Board/practice policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

This is a role that is very much part of the wider Practice Nursing team. This is a key role in supporting all Practice Clinicians and Nurses in delivering safe and efficient care to our patients.

Candidates will be expected to carry out autonomous clinics for procedures such as Phlebotomy, Wound Care, Chronic Disease monitoring, Vaccinations Clinics. Training can be provided for the right candidate who may not hold all of these competencies.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and / or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care
  • Experience of caring for patients in a health care setting
  • IT literate

Desirable

  • Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice
  • Experience of working within the NHS
  • Experience of Primary Care computer software

Language Skills

Desirable

  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject Or Equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW)
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

Desirable

  • NVQ level 3 or above
  • Accredited Primary Care HCSW Course – Level 3
  • Additional care delivery courses/training specific to Primary Care
  • Knowledge of Primary Care computer software
  • Accredited training in phlebotomy
