We are looking for a qualified Nursing Associate, who has a passion for providing high quality patient focused care who have a flexible attitude towards work and a desire for new challenges.
Ophthalmology is a specialised area which has several sub-specialities within it, this is a great opportunity to learn a new set of skills as well as develop the one you already have.
Main duties of the job
General duties will include diagnostic testing within the clinic areas and pre & post-operative care in the ward area. You will develop an in depth knowledge of ophthalmology and the diagnostic tests needed to aid the MDT with diagnosing and treating a range of ophthalmic conditions, and provide personal care to patients.
As a Band 4 you will receive direct support from senior nursing colleagues to develop and enhance your skills. This will enable you to work across the whole department in such areas as co- ordinating clinics to ensure smooth running sessions, working within the in house rapid access service administering eye drops and carrying out diagnostic tests.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Contribute to the assessment, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines under supervision.
Support and provide patient education and health promotion.
Support the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice.
Contribute to the management of risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care.
Maintain accurate and complete records of all care activities, in a timely manner, adhering to local and professional standards for documentation.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Significant experience of working at Senior Health Care Assistant level in a health or equivalent setting
- Recent experience of working within an acute hospital setting
- Experience of assisting with clinical procedures
- Knowledge of Health & safety
- Knowledge of infection control and decontamination processes
Desirable
- Experience of working as an assistant practitioner
Qualifications & Education
Essential
- Basic General Education GCSE Maths & English grade C or above OR level 2 numeracy skills and level 2 literacy skills
- Diploma/NVQ level 3 in Health / health & Social care OR completion of the LTHTR TNA course.
Desirable
- Basic Life Support
- ECDL or equivalent IT skills
- Counselling Course
- ANTT Assessor
