Main duties of the job
- Provide core Associate sexual health and HIV nursing skills including microscopy, chaperoning, and venepuncture, and cryotherapy, genital examination of male and female patients.
- The collection, handling and processing of samples (including cervical cytology).
- To work in all aspects of sexual health and HIV services.
- Use appropriate clinical guidance documents.
- Pre-test discussions with patients regarding HIV and Hepatitis using interpersonal skills to assess patients understanding, risk and eligibility.
- To adhere to Imperial College Healthcare NHS trust policies on child protection and Fraser competencies in relation to sexual health and the under 16’s.

- Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
- Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within The Code.
- Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice
- Understand requirements for NMC professional Revalidation
- Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
Education
Essential
- Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
- Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification
- GCSE Grade A-C English and Maths or level 2 in Maths and English
Desirable
- Other Health related qualifications
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
Desirable
- Previous NHS experience
- Acute hospital experience
- Understanding NHS/ Health and Social care.
