We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our professional team of Clinical Scientists, Technologists, Medical and Support Staff committed to delivering a high quality service in a busy, well-equipped Nuclear Medicine Department.
The Nuclear Medicine Department provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging and non-imaging investigations and therapy procedures at Castle Hill Hospital (CHH) in East Yorkshire, Hull Royal Infirmary (HRI), and Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby. The service is equipped with five gamma cameras: a state of the art 12 headed GE Starguide, two dual headed GE 870DR, a dual headed GE Infinia Hawkeye), a dual headed Philips Brightview; a gamma sample counter and an onsite radiopharmacies (including a cyclotron facility).
Main duties of the job
To perform a broad range of clinical, scientific and other duties to support the operation of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital (including PET/CT and the Molecular Imaging Research Centre), liaising closely with medical and technical staff. The post holder will be expected to provide scientific and technical support for the daily work of the department and to contribute to the scientific support of the nuclear medicine department at Grimsby and the radioiodine service at another Trust in Yorkshire, including regular travel to these sites.

- 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree in Physics or other relevant subject
- M.Sc. in Medical Physics
- Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) Certificate of completion of Post Qualification Higher Training, completion of the NHS Scientist Training Programme (STP), or equivalent (e.g. Corporate Membership of IPEM)
- Eligible for Registration as a Clinical Scientist

- Successful completion of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) Part I and Part II training in Nuclear Medicine, completion of the NHS Scientist Training Programme (STP), or equivalent.
- Experience of research and development in nuclear medicine
- Good knowledge and understanding of nuclear medicine imaging, non imaging and therapeutic procedures.
- Operation of very complex nuclear medicine equipment
- Knowledge of principles and application of radiation protection and associated legislation
- Knowledge of relevant human physiology and anatomy
- Routine knowledge of the use of spreadsheets and databases to manipulate and analyse complex data.
- Able to train groups of other professional staff (Medical, Scientific, Technical)
- Able to deliver teaching and training on complex subjects
- Ability to provide advice and explanation to patients regarding nuclear medicine procedures
- Ability to evaluate current work practices and suggest and implement improvements
- Able to critically evaluate scientific articles in medical/scientific journals
- Able to deal with complex and unpredictable situations, with frequent interruptions.
- Able to prioritise and manage own work
- Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area of competence
- Able to supervise the work of others

- Presentation of relevant peer-reviewed work at national meetings.
- Publication of relevant papers in peer-reviewed journals.
