Job summary

As a Non-Resident Oncology Fellow, you will provide clinical and medical support to the patients on the Oncology ward, and Outpatient Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Units, through the provision of general patient care and medical procedures.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the clinical care and supervision of Oncology inpatients and outpatients, conducting assessment and clinical evaluations (Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy) in conjunction with the Consultants and multidisciplinary teams, including rewriting of drug charts, writing up TTOs etc. Work closely with the Consultants and nursing staff to support patient treatments and management of symptom control, as appropriate. Support management of acute oncological conditions including neutropenia sepsis, treatment related toxicities and other oncological emergencies.

Non-Resident Oncology Fellow

The Opportunity:

We are delighted to offer an exciting part-time opportunity for a Non-Resident Oncology Fellow to join the Oncology team at The London Clinic, based at our state-of-the-art Cancer Centre in Central London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a doctor looking to develop their oncology experience within a highly specialist, multidisciplinary environment, while also balancing clinical work with research, a PhD, or other professional development opportunities.

Flexible working is a key feature of this role, with working patterns agreed in advance.Additional flexibility may be available for candidates undertaking a higher degree, such as a PhD.

We are also happy to arrange informal visits for candidates who would like to learn more about the role, our Cancer Centre, and the opportunities available at The London Clinic.

The Role:

As a Non-Resident Oncology Fellow, you will provide clinical and medical support to patients across our:

  • Oncology Ward
  • Outpatient Chemotherapy Unit
  • Radiotherapy Unit

Working closely with Consultants, nursing colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality clinical care and support the assessment, treatment and ongoing management of oncology patients.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

You will:

  • Provide clinical care to Oncology inpatients and outpatients.
  • Conduct patient assessments and clinical evaluations across chemotherapy and radiotherapy services, working alongside Consultants and MDT colleagues.
  • Support prescribing, including rewriting drug charts and preparing TTOs.
  • Work closely with Consultants and nursing teams to support treatment and symptom management.
  • Assess and manage acute oncological conditions, including:Neutropenic sepsisTreatment-related toxicitiesOther oncological emergencies
  • Participate in ward rounds, MDT meetings and relevant unit discussions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records to support audit, reporting and patient care.
  • Respond appropriately to urgent clinical issues in the absence of the admitting Consultant.
  • Contribute to the Acute Oncology Steering Group.
  • Undertake routine clinical procedures and support the wider Oncology service as required.

Working Pattern:

Job Type: Part-time: 0.5 WTE | 12 year fixed-term contract, with possibility of extension, approximately 22 hours per week.

Working arrangements are flexible and agreed in advance with line manager.

We may be able to offer additional flexibility for candidates undertaking a higher degree, such as a PhD.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of acute medicine and high dependency / intensive care and confident in the initial management of a deteriorating patient.
  • Ability to assess and manage patients presenting with acute oncological symptoms, as well as performing all routine clinical procedures with the ability to interpret standard investigations, including, blood results (FBCX, coagulation and biochemistry), blood gases, ECG and CXR.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with License to Practice as well as an MBBS or equivalent as well as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Intermediate Life support qualification.
  • Completion of General Medical Training (FY1/2) with post qualification medical/surgical experience.
