The appointee will join an enthusiastic and friendly of Respiratory Medicine which is an integral part of the Division of Emergency Care and Medicine at the QEH.
Respiratory Inpatients are looked after in Necton ward which has one dedicated bay for NIV patients 4 general bays , 3 side rooms and a procedure room, In total we look after 32 Patients. 2 respiratory teams at any one time divides patients between them and our 3rd consultant is in charge of General medical and other specialty ward referrals and our 4th consultant does the in reach for Acute medical area.
Outpatient work and Lung cancer referrals are divided among all four consultants. Weekly there are 2 bronchoscopy/EBUS lists and one pleural clinic run by the existing team. Research and tertiary referrals are undertaken in collaboration with CUH and Papworth. The unit actively participates in the local and national audits. The post-holder will follow their standard job plan
Main duties of the job
- To take consultant responsibility for allocated inpatients, with support from a designated team of junior doctors based on the respiratory ward.
- To provide Consultant led in reach service to ward and acute medicine referrals.
- To conduct general respiratory outpatient clinics Lung cancer clinics
- To maintain effective communication and handover to the on-call team.
- To Work within a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals and managers to further develop local respiratory services.
- To take part in the weekend General Medical on-call rota with colleagues, currently 1 in 18, as first on-call 8:30 till 20:30 and a second on call covers the wards from 9:00 till 14:30 at weekends. 1:18 week day night on calls.

Experience
Essential
- Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Respiratory Medicine
Desirable
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at time of interview
Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- MRCP
Desirable
- Other professional qualification or higher degree e.g. in medical education, clinical research or management.
