Job overview

CNWL Sexual Health Services are recruiting an Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocate to provide Maternity Cover and support patients 16 and over experiencing domestic and sexual violence who attend our service and live in Barnet, Camden, Haringey or Islington. The role is based within the Safeguarding Team and will provide risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, and close working with clinical and other safeguarding staff and teams. The role has a focus on being clinic-based to respond to patient disclosures and works directly alongside multidisciplinary teams.

Main duties of the job

The IDSVA will also provide training, advice, and guidance to staff to strengthen the service response to domestic and sexual violence.

We’re looking for:

  • An experienced IDSVA (or working towards accreditation)
  • Strong safeguarding and multi-agency working skills

Experience

Essential

  • Experience within the DA sector

Desirable

  • Experience of working within sexual health

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the issues facing people affected by Domestic abuse and/or sexual abuse
  • Working knowledge of relevant safeguarding legislation
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, statutory, voluntary and other stakeholders verbally and in writing

Values and Behaviours

Essential

  • Non-judgemental, non-directive and anti-discriminatory approach to empowering vulnerable clients.
  • A perspective on how gender, social, economic, race, cultural, linguistic, religious & sexual orientation issues may impact on people’s lives.

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • CAADA/Safe Lives/Women’s Aid IDVA, ISVA or DAPA Qualifications (or demonstrable significant experience in supporting survivors), or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and relevant professional qualifications/training
