Launceston Minor Injuries Unit has a vacancy for a Practitioner in our unit providing a service for a diverse patient group every day of the year

This opportunity is open to either a Band 6 MIU Practitioner or a Band 5 with the ambition to develop into a MIU Practitioner.

You need to have a passion for minor injury care, good communication skills, and a commitment to providing the highest standard of care as part of a small team. You must be responsive to change and flexible in your approach as we are in an exciting period of development for the MIU service. A sound knowledge of professional issues will be required.  On occasion there is an expectancy to support other Minor Injury Units across the Trust, particularly within the North and East locality.

Band 6   -  these practitioners need to have a recognised qualification and experience of working with patients in Minor Injury / Urgent Care settings as well as having an IRMER qualification.

Band 5 -  This role is looking for an enthusiastic practitioner willing to learn in a friendly supportive environment, with the plan to be enrolled on an academic degree or masters level module in minor injury and illness developing your drug and imaging knowledge and over time meet specific criteria to acquire the desired Band 6 position.

Main duties of the job

Band 6 MIU Practitioner

  • To deliver, without supervision, effective assessment and treatment of patients utilising evidence based approach. Responsible for the care needs, the management of treatment and evaluation of clinical interventions, reflecting the needs of patients attending this Unit.
  • Responsible and accountable for the delivery of patient care in unit

Band 5 MIU Practitioner (Development Post)

  • To deliver, under supervision, effective minor injury services to patients utilising an evidence-based approach.
  • Responsible and accountable for the delivery of patient care in a practitioner-run MIU. Appropriate supervision will be provided by Band 6/7 MIU practitioners.
