We are excited to offer a full time Band 5-6 development post in Scarborough Acute Hospital Liaison Service (AHLS).

This post is open to both experienced Band 5 clinicians, who are already operating at Band 6 level and developing Band 5 staff. Our Senior Leadership are committed to supporting any successful Band 5 clinician through role-specific competencies to allow them to develop the knowledge and skills to progress in their career to a Band 6. Once all competencies are successfully demonstrated, the applicant will receive a permanent Band 6 position within the team.

This post is not open to Newly Registered Professions, candidates must have their professional registration in place and successfully completed the preceptorship programme in order to be considered

The AHLS Team work into A&E and the hospital wards, supporting adults with a range of mental health symptoms and safety needs. People referred to the AHLS Team may also have complex comorbid physical health and social needs. We are looking for a passionate, dedicated, motivated clinician who is excited about working within a busy acute hospital A&E department and on acute hospital wards.

Main duties of the job

This developmental post is open to registered professionals including: mental health nurses, dual qualified nurses, OT's, social workers.

Daily core duties include:

Liaising with staff in the acute hospital, supporting them with the management of the mental health and well-being of patients who have been admitted for physical health care, but who require support with new or existing mental health need.

Responding to referrals asking for a mental state assessment for people presenting with an acute mental health problem in A&E or on the ward. There are clear response times and targets for the Team, which you will support us to continue to achieve.

Being professionally accountable and responsible for giving specialist advice & support to facilitate the mental health care given to patients in the acute hospital.

Presenting the views of patients and carers to the clinical teams in the acute hospital to facilitate collaborative working. Also liaising with other professionals & agencies in the facilitation of a safe and effective plans of mental health care.

Liaising with other professionals and agencies in the development & facilitation of safe and effective discharge plans - reducing hospital lengths of stay and readmission.

Promoting the principles of the Recovery Model and Trauma Informed Care. Enhancing knowledge and skills in the field of mental ill health for staff employed in acute hospital through the provision of specialist advice and training.

The AHLS Team operates over 24 hours, 7 day a week, with shift patterns. Knowledge of working in Liaison Psychiatry is desirable but not essential; however some community experience would be of benefit to any interested applicant.
