Job summary

Access to specialist CAMHS is in high demand and as such we need an experienced clinician with a passion for helping children and young people to receive timely assessments to join our CAMHS single point of access CAMHS SPA. CAMHS SPA receives and triages referrals for Herefordshire & Worcestershire and works alongside partner agencies and core CAMHS to ensure the best outcome for the child or young person being referred. The role is 37.5 hours Monday to Friday, with some flexibility for the right candidate. You will be based at one of our localities: preferences can be discussed at interview. You will work alongside clinical colleagues, assistant psychologists and administration staff. You will need to hold a professional registration and have clinical experience working with children and young people.

Main duties of the job

Working within the SPA (the local referral and care pathway) provide clinical assessment/opinion and appropriate triage of referrals with a view to referring to the appropriate service for assessment, risk assessment and management, treatment and safeguarding, where necessary, in line with agreed pathways with partner agencies, such as the Early Help Hub. A high level of competence, knowledge and skills (underpinned by knowledge of effective risk assessment and relevant evidence- based practice) is crucial to the role.

Provide feedback, signposting and information to referrers when the referral is not suitable for CAMHS.

Work with GPs and other referrers, local and statutory services to collect sufficient information to enable prompt and effective decision making on the pathway for all referrals.

Design, develop and provide service information for referrers, service users and carers about the options available to them.

Ensure that information and progress regarding clients onward referral are communicated promptly and accurately to referrers and other relevant teams and organisations whilst having due regard for confidentiality.

Enhance the promotion and delivery of culturally capable, non-discriminatory mental health care services with an outcome orientated and recovery focus.

Under the direction of the CAMHS Manager for Single Point of Access Service (SPA), and working with CAMHS colleagues provide prompt visual screening assessment and triage of all referrals in to the SPA, providing information, signposting, or onward referrals for children and young people presenting with mental health problems. The post holder will offer advice, support and training to Primary Care and other referrers about the appropriateness of referrals to CAMHS.

The service operates across Worcestershire with bases in Worcester, Redditch and Kidderminster. Base preference can be discussed by the successful applicant post interview.
