Job overview

We are looking for someone to provide ultrasound physics and engineering services as part of a highly motivated team within the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering department at St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Ultrasound group is innovative and technology driven. It provides a wide variety of support and advice services to the Trust and also to a number of external healthcare providers. The group is involved in all aspects of the ultrasound equipment lifecycle from specification to decommissioning. This includes repairs, planned maintenance, equipment evaluation, basic ultrasound physics teaching, user training, QA, safety advice and PACS connectivity.

The post is based at St George’s Hospital but some work will be at other GESH sites, such as Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital. Some travel and overnight stays in support of external contracts are required to external customer sites to carry out Ultrasound QA.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of technical support for ultrasound systems focusing on corrective and preventative maintenance, as well as carrying out routine quality assurance.

Candidates should have a degree in physics, engineering or related discipline and at least 3 years’ experience in a technical services role, ideally in ultrasound equipment but other experience will be considered.

We are prioritising potential over experience and will provide onsite training if necessary. We are looking for someone who can troubleshoot issues and provide practical solutions autonomously. We are also looking for someone who can prioritise their own workload ensuring the safety, performance and reliability of diagnostic ultrasound equipment. The role involves working closely with sonographers, radiologists, clinicians and other healthcare scientists. The success candidate will help maintain high standards of patient care through the effective management of ultrasound technology.
