Applications are invited for a Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA) to join the Haematology and Transfusion laboratories (Blood Sciences) within Pathology at Birmingham Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

Experience of working in a medical laboratory environment would be advantageous but is not essential as full training in the use of the appropriate equipment and computer systems will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be the first point of contact for Trust staff delivering Pathology samples to the department or answering telephone enquiries from external service users, so a professional, pleasant and helpful attitude is required. Your role will be varied, including the receipt, sorting and preparation of patient’s blood samples, reagent validation, temperature monitoring, blood transfusion product handling and the routine maintenance of automated equipment.
