Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a major trauma centre, supporting a broad and complex caseload across cranio-maxillofacial prosthetics, orthognathic surgery, cranioplasty, 3D cranio-maxillofacial reconstruction and multidisciplinary surgical planning, as well as a busy ocular prosthetic clinic. The successful candidate will work closely with clinical, surgical, dental, nursing both CNS and Dental Nurses, technical and administrative colleagues to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
The service provides care across a wide range of specialties, including maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, ENT, head and neck, plastics, ophthalmology, dermatology and associated clinical services. The role requires a practitioner who can work autonomously, manage and prioritise their own caseload, contribute to safe and effective service delivery, and support high standards of clinical governance, documentation and professional practice.
The post holder will also contribute to the supervision and development of junior staff and students, support departmental protocols and quality standards, and take part in clinical audit, CPD and ongoing service development.
Main duties of the job
Provide a clinical and technical service pre-operative model planning, surgical splint and template fabrication for craniofacial reconstruction, orthognathic surgery and cranioplasty speciality services.
Provide 3D cranio-maxillofacial surgical reconstruction services and 3D manufacturing craniofacial technology and allocated surgical caseload.
Provide timely, efficient and courteous provision of delegated Cranio-Maxillofacial Prosthetics services including oculoplastic services to the agreed standards and protocols of the department taking account of the patient/clients clinical, physical and cultural needs in agreement with the Consultant / Head of Cranio-Maxillofacial Prosthetics Unit during periods of low activity in orthognathic, cranioplasty and 3D craniofacial surgical reconstruction services.
Monitor and adjust work priorities in conjunction with Consultants and Clinicians to take into account changing demands on the diagnostic services due to emergencies. Ensuring that the Trust targets in the Cranio-Maxillofacial Prosthetics Unit are met.
Be responsible for ensuring the legal documentation on the Cranio-Maxillofacial Prosthetics Information System associated with each completed patient episode.

Accountable for own professional actions and work within codes of Practice and professional guidelines
Apply in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, materials, pathology and equipment to determine appropriate craniofacial techniques and prosthetics rehabilitation for the individual patient condition.
Responsible for the safe use and maintenance of complex, high capital cost specialist craniofacial equipment and allocated laboratory facilities.

General
Essential
- BSc Dental Sciences/Technology or equivalent; postgraduate MPT qualification; vocational training and/or MSc MFPR.
- Registered with the relevant professional body/Healthcare Scientists (desirable) and GDC registration (essential)
- NHS experience as an MPT and postgraduate cranio-maxillofacial unit experience.
- Experience in maxillofacial prosthetics, orthognathic planning, cranioplasty, craniofacial reconstruction and/or oculoplastic work.
- Ability to use or show knowledge of 3D planning systems such as ProPlan, Surgicase/Synthes, Mimics or equivalent.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary medical/dental teams.
- Evidence of CPD, clinical/technical audit, legal documentation, quality standards and safe practice.
- Good written and verbal communication, including ability to present complex information clearly.
- Experience managing own workload, prioritising clinical/technical work and meeting deadlines.
- Evidence of supporting junior staff, students or contributing to training/CPD.
