Job overview
Performs work including activities which are complex and/or non-routine. Responsible for technical fault finding, diagnosis, repair, acceptance testing and calibration on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment, e.g. electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, building management systems and automation, standby generator plant, security access control, nurse call systems and lifts. This is not an exhaustive list but provides examples of the type and range of systems and equipment worked on.
Undertaking maintenance, repairs, minor improvement and capital work across the Trust as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
Assists the Estates Manager to deliver business plans, review planned maintenance procedures and support the organisation.
The role would be principally based Velindre Cancer Centre site however dependant on the needs of the service it may be required to work on the other site locations such as Welsh Blood Service and associated sites.
Main duties of the job
To work in accordance with the requirements of WHTMs & WHBN’s statutory regulations, IET Wiring Regulations and Trust policies.
To ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner always following the appropriate risk assessment.
Subject to an individual’s availability, work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management.
Undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities at the request of the management team in all trades.
Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Trust procedures.
Undertake technical fault finding on complex electrical systems and equipment. Using cause and effect analysis’ together with detailed examination to gain an effective solution.
Accountably act as Authorised Person (AP) for relevant systems such as LV/HV, Medical Gases, Ventilation, Legionella
Provide service lead role for areas covered as AP including providing plans/schedules related to maintenance activities and major interruptions.
To attend training courses as required to maintain the ability to carry out the role.
Follows detailed engineering drawings and specifications, interpret and follow all relevant regulations at all times.
Uses all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.

Experience
Essential
- Significant experience as an electrician. Working within the requirements of method statements or permits to work.
Desirable
- vious NHS experience.
- Awareness of WHTM standards
- Previous experience of working with CAFM systems
Skills and Attributes
Essential
- Ability to problem solve and work from own initiative, managing own times and priorities.
- Able to communicate with team colleagues, managers and all other service users.
Desirable
- Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
- BTEC ONC Building Services or City & Guilds plus relevant training and experience.
- Hold level 3 NVQ or equivalent experience Electrical Install/Maintenance.
- Current Qualification to the latest standard of BS7671 City & Guilds (latest edition)

- City & Guilds 2391I&T
- HV Authorised Person
- Cosh Health and safety Qualification
