Lead the Maintenance Function in a Specialist Healthcare Environment

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Manager to join our inpatient hospital in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled maintenance professional to take ownership of the site's maintenance operations, ensuring a safe, secure, and compliant environment for our patients, colleagues, and visitors.

Working within a highly regulated healthcare setting, you will lead the day-to-day maintenance function, manage contractors, oversee planned and reactive maintenance activities, and ensure all statutory compliance requirements are met.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all maintenance activities across the site.
  • Manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and reactive repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety, environmental, and statutory regulations.
  • Oversee contractor management, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to the required standards.
  • Monitor and maintain building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, and fire safety systems.
  • Support capital projects, refurbishments, and site improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, compliance documentation, and asset registers.
  • Work closely with clinical and operational teams to maintain a safe environment.
  • Assist in budget management and identify opportunities for cost-effective improvements.

About You

We are looking for a hands-on maintenance professional with strong leadership skills and experience managing facilities within a complex environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a Maintenance Lead, Maintenance Manager, or similar role.
  • Experience overseeing maintenance operations within healthcare, secure environments, social care, hospitality, manufacturing, or comparable settings.
  • Strong knowledge of building services and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent contractor management and organisational skills.
  • A recognised qualification in a relevant trade or building services discipline.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and compliance standards.
