Full Time - 37.5 Hours per Week
This joinery role is based at Fieldhead hospital in Wakefield but covers other health centres in the Wakefield area that sits under the trust footprint.
The role is maintaining all joinery based jobs internally and externally on the buildings.
The work is varied and changes on a day to day basis in line with service need requirements and prioritisation of works.
Estates trust vehicles are utilised for traveling around the footprint of the trust and the successful candidates skillset may at times need to be used on the Barnsley properties which includes Kendray hospital and Cheswold Hospital which is a medium to low secure unit based in Doncaster.
This is an exciting role for the right candidate that likes a challenge in a very demanding environment.
The successful candidate will become part of a small team of Joiners who work in with and support other trades and maintenance assistants in day to day duties.
Reactive works and statutory PPM are the main duties of this post.
All employees of the Trust are strongly encouraged to have their up-to-date flu vaccination to protect staff and patients.
Main duties of the job
Maintain all aspects of joinery equipment to a high standard while being aware and respectful of your surroundings.
Carry out repairs and PPM on a daily basis to keep the buildings safe and compliant to HTMs and all relevant British standards
To be able to carry out work from drawings provided and adapt where necessary to overcome problems

To be part of an on call rota covering emergency repairs/making safe out of hours.

Job responsibilities
KEY RESULT AREAS:
The post holder will be responsible for the execution of maintenance duties, trouble shooting/repair and minor works on a wide range of plant equipment and premises within the Trust or for other organisations as directed.
These duties will essentially involve his/her specialism however training and experience of other elements of craftsmen skills will enable the post holder to reach levels of flexibility and competence over a wide range of traditional building and engineering works
1.1 Care/service/function provision:
To carry out day to day maintenance of Joinery/Carpentry equipment, machinery and building fabrications throughout our Trust properties and other organisations as directed
- To work closely with ward managers and work alongside patients and have an understanding of their needs whilst carrying out duties.
- Establish good working relationships with all points of contact with estate users, ensuring they are kept informed about the progress of work as required.
1.2 Working as part of a Team:
Be able to interpret work from all instructions, drawings and specifications without supervision
To diagnose and repair faults on door locks
To carry out maintenance and repairs to all joinery plant and equipment to be found within Health Care remises
To carry out new works as and when required to Fire Doors BS476, HTM05-02 Fire Codes
To carry out repairs of furniture, doors, windows, glazing, cabinet
Replacement of doors, windows, partitions
Refurbishment of desks, cupboards, tables, bookcases etc. by stripping and re-polishing
Understand fully the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts and to participate in the multi-skilling arrangements in place.
To pass on knowledge to other trades
To support and guide Estates Technical support workers and apprentices in their roles and development
Driving hospital vehicles and plant as required (not H.G.V.)
The post holder may be expected to participate in the out of hours on call rota which involves multi skilling across all trades, bringing them into contact with sewage and other bodily fluids (for which protective equipment must be worn)
The post holder will be expected to work at any properties throughout the Trust as instructed by the estates and facilities coordinator.
The post holder will on occasions be required to work overtime/change working hours if the need of service dictates.
Work alongside and supervise contractors on trust premises in line with the Trust control of contractor policy
1.3 Managing Self:
To carry out installation work of doors, windows, partitions, stud walls ,roof works and stair cases and other.
Required to carry out work in accordance with working at height and permit to work systems on various functions in various conditions i.e. confined spaces, sewerage, drains, boiler houses, patient equipment, heights .
To work from ladders, to erect and work from scaffold (once trained) and safe use of safety harness systems.
All Trust employees are expected to maintain existing skills and develop/receive training in new skills as required to carry out work of the Trust.
To undergo training to become and authorised key holder for the Regional Secure Unit
To ensure the appropriate use of safety and protective clothing and equipment, as required by good working practice and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
To read understand and apply safety guidance notes, hazard letters, fire instructions and other such documents as issued to the post holder by the estates officers
It is the responsibility of all Trust employees to ensure that all duties are carried out in accordance with best practice risk management

- The content of this post will be reviewed in consultation with the post holder when necessary and in line with the service developments
- Ensure all relevant Trust and Estates Mandatory training is completed in date
- Train on lone working for the Estates out of hours on call system
1.4 Management Supervision and Support:
To have an understanding of HTMs and HBNs and work in accordance with guidelines and other statutory acts for Joinery/Carpentry/building compliance
To work in line with all current and new estates standard operation procedures
To work under the instruction of the Estates officers but prioritise and manage their own workload on a day to day basis
Raise any safety or working practice issues with the Estates officers
Responsible for training, guiding, supervising and supporting estates apprentices
Be part of the out of hours on call team co-ordinating with the Estates on call Manager for guidance and support if needed
1.5 Financial Responsibility:
To ensure stock levels are maintained and order stock and parts as required working within the department budgets
Cost minor works and implement the schemeskeeping within budgets given and timeframes agreed

1.7. Safeguarding:
