Job overview

HPFT is seeking a specialty Doctor psychiatrist to join Southwest Crisis resolution and home Treatment Team based in Watford. The vacancy has arisen as the result of previous post holder moving to another position. The successful candidate would contribute to clinical effectiveness of well-established Crisis team

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside the multidisciplinary team and a consultant psychiatrist allocated to SWCRHTT. People receiving services from the community services are predominantly severely mentally ill and so active involvement in the process of care programming is vital. The post holder will be expected to work independently on a day-to-day basis, but with access to consultant. The post holder will be based at Colne House in Watford and will be expected to do regular home visits across the catchment area. The successful candidate would be supporting CRHTT consultant and the multidisciplinary team in providing diagnostic assessments and treatment to patients with severe, complex, and high-risk psychiatric conditions. Successful candidate would be expected to undertake detailed assessments of clinical risks and liaising closely with community and acute care pathway colleagues as well as GPs and carers. The Team usually has up to about 40-50 patients receiving acute home treatment support at any time.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
  • To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
  • To participate annually in a job plan review with the line manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation. To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
  • To comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the medical director and other managers in preparing plans for services.
  • Provision of psychiatric expertise to the team
  • To undertake outpatient clinics, home visits and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
  • To liaise effectively with primary care and mainstream mental health services.
  • To have regular clinical supervision with the consultant psychiatrist. It is the post holder’s responsibility to ensure that this is booked.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • • Ability to demonstrate clinical problem solving in interdisciplinary areas
  • • Possession of good organisational skills
  • • Be able to actively listen and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • • Has actively participated in clinical audit.

Desirable

  • • Holds a full valid driving license and access to a car (Unless you have a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995).

Eligibility

Essential

  • • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise

Desirable

  • • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
  • • Section 12/Approved clinician approval

Qualifications

Essential

  • • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable

  • • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • • A minimum of 4 years’ full time post graduate training (or it’s equivalent gained on a part time of flexible basis) at least two years of which to be within a psychiatry training programme or as fixed term Specialty Trainee within psychiatry o; or have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • • Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams
  • • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psychosocial perspective and wide medical knowledge.

Desirable

  • • Clinical experience in a range of services within Psychiatry.
  • • Excellent degree of medical knowledge in relation to mental health conditions.
