We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed doctor to join our existing Rheumatology team based across North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke and Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester. The posts are suitable for those with Rheumatology experience including candidates with more experience who are looking for stability and career development perhaps towards becoming a future consultant in Rheumatology. The appointee will provide a specialist rheumatological service in conjunction with Nine other Rheumatology Consultants based across both the Winchester and Basingstoke sites.
This post is central to delivering effective patient care at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be primarily based in Basingstoke but you may be asked to attend other sites as required. The post will be involved in all aspects of diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide support primarily for our outpatient service but will also be involved with inpatient care as well. This post will provide support for our Rheumatology outpatient service but also help us to achieve our 5-year goal of excellent care in Rheumatology including our biologics, CTD and fracture liaison services. Setting up an Ankylosing Spondylitis service, Rheumatology transition to adulthood and Fracture Liaison services are particular areas in development at the present time.
Post holders will be supported to obtain competencies in all areas of Rheumatology. It is expected that experience and competencies will be gained over a number of years and may ultimately contribute towards the post holder applying for a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) through the GMC.

The post holder will support the continued provision of excellent outpatient rheumatological care as well as some inpatient provision. There is administrative support provided and office accommodation.

Clinical Experience
Essential
- Wide experience in all aspects of Rheumatology
- Experienced in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance and the benefits of how this improves the quality of care provided to patients
Desirable
- To provide a range of services to compliment the current skill mix of the department.
- Participation in local and national audit
- Management training and experience
Research & Teaching
Essential
- Evidence of participation in research
- Continuing commitment to medical education
- Experience of teaching medical students, peers, MDT
Desirable
- Conceptual and analytical skills
- Evidence of implementing evidence-based guidelines
Professional Qualifications
Essential
- Shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
- MRCP or Equivalent
