Applications are invited for a whole time locum consultant post in Neonatology in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to cover maternity leave. Successful applicants will deliver inpatient care in the neonatal units in the Royal Hospital for Children and the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley and will deliver neonatal outpatient clinics in the Royal Hospital for children. The post is suitable for candidates who have (or will have) completed neonatal higher specialist training (GRID) or equivalent. Individualised job plan discussions will be held prior to commencement of post.
The Royal Hospital for Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Glasgow (RHC) is the largest of the three units in GG&C. It provides level 3 neonatal services with 16 Intensive Care, 14 High Dependency and 20 Special Care cots. It is the lead perinatal centre for the west of Scotland and is part of the Scottish Perinatal Network, providing regional and national services. The RHC is the location for the Scottish ECMO service.
The Ian Donald interventional fetal medicine unit is located in the maternity building leading to a high proportion of congenital anomalies and other high-risk pregnancies delivering on site. The RHC has an extensive range of tertiary paediatric services. The successful candidate will work closely with perinatal and specialist paediatric services including surgery, cardiology, ENT, neurosurgery, endocrinology, respiratory, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, genetics, neurology, infectious diseases, orthopaedics, and radiology.
Unit clinical staffing is provided by FY2s, ANNPs (on tier 1, and tier 2), resident doctors and clinical fellows. 25 consultant colleagues provide resident cover 24/7 cover and on-call from home.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team of consultants to develop the service, deliver sustainable training for medical and nursing staff, support research and quality improvement.
