Locum Consultant Medical Oncologist Opportunity – University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust invites applications for a Locum Consultant Medical  Oncologist to join the team. Opportunities are available across Breast and GI.  Other interests will also be considered, and roles can be tailored accordingly.

The department encourages a 4-day on-site work model, with the option of 1 day remote working to enhance work-life balance.

Facilities & Research:On-site Chemotherapy Day Unit, set for relocation and upgrade in 2024.Radiotherapy Suite upgrade due for completion in 2025.

Strong support for clinical trials and research, with dedicated job-planned time and research staff.

Work Structure & Support

Consultants manage their own site-specific workload and participate in Acute Oncology Service (1 week in 15 rotation). Relocation support is available for suitable candidates.

Main duties of the job

This is a full-time position comprising of 10 programmed activities (PA’s) based at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust NHS Trust.  As per trust guidance a minimum of 1.5 PAs are dedicated to SPAs. You will be expected to participate in a minimum of 1 in 12 acute oncology service cover including weekend rounds and off site cover at night. On call duties are supported by an Oncology SpR. Appropriate dedicated specialist nursing and administrative and operational support will also be provided.

All members of the consultant team would be expected to undertake the following weekly routines:

  • Two Inpatient ward rounds for your named patients
  • Cancer site specific MDTs
  • New Patient and Follow Up clinics.
  • Supporting resident junior medical staff with training.
  • AOS rounds (when undertaking on call weeks)
  • ·         Chemotherapy prescribing
  • Peer review

Teaching

Essential

  • Evidence of commitment to formal and informal teaching and training of specialty registrars, core medical and foundation trainees, medical students, and allied health professionals.

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Evidence of ability to take full responsibility for independent management of patients

Desirable

  • Experience in an additional tumour site
  • Evidence of role in development of clinical service

Leadership & Management

Essential

  • Evidence of management and leadership experience

  • Evidence of willingness to undertake management activities

Research & clinical audit

Essential

  • Able to conduct clinical audit with evidence of regular completion of audits, and demonstration of action on outcomes if appropriate
  • Able to demonstrate keeps self-up to date with current research and best practice, through appropriate continuing professional development activities and own independent study and reflection.

  • Evidence of being Principal Investigator of Clinical Trials
  • Evidence of teaching qualification or learning.

  • Entry on GMC Specialist register via one of the following: a. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) b. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration c. European Community Rights

Desirable

  • Appropriate higher degree e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent
