- The team is supported by a cohort of reporting radiographers covering Plain Xray/CT & MRI. We have Advanced practitioners for Ultrasound providing Sonography services for the region.
- George Eliot has a state-of-the-art 3T Siemens MRI & 1.5T Siemens MRI. There are 2 x 64 slices Siemens CT Scanners. The Ultrasound department has 6 Canon machines. Our recently opened onsite Clinical Diagnostic Centre (CDC) is equipped with state of the art 1.5T Siemens MRI and GE Revolution Apex CT Scanner. The images are all digitally reported on Insignia PACS and Soliton RIS system. There is a Soliton VR in place which is in process of being replaced by Solventum (previously M-Modal).
Main duties of the job
- The vacant post due to increased workload, experience in colorectal reporting would be advantageous to support our Lower GI reporting team.
- The work of the newly created post is currently being covered by existing radiologists as additional remunerated activities and part time locum radiologists and outsourcing.
- The department supports 2nd and/or 3rd year Clinical Radiology Specialist Trainee from the West Midlands Clinical Radiology Training Scheme based in Birmingham.
- The newly appointed post holders will be encouraged to develop special interests that are complimentary to their existing interests and departmental workload. The Directorate will be flexible and would wish to accommodate any special interests that candidates may have. The new post holders will take part in the on-call rota (1 in 10 with prospective cover) at the George Eliot Hospital for Clinical Imaging.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Take on-going responsibility for timely reporting of patients scans.
- Provide a consultation service and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and Primary Care.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other post graduate activities.
- Develop and maintain good communications with General practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
- Participate in the development of the care of patients arriving as emergencies.
- Participate and encourage two-way communications encompassing briefing systems as appropriate.
- Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure that all trust wide standards are maintained to improve the quality of total care to all who come in contact with services provided by GEH.
- Ensure compliance with all appropriate legal and statutory requirements, including Health and Safety, Standing financial Instructions and Incident Reporting.

Clinical Skills/ Experience
Essential
- Evidence of extensive training in Cross Sectional Radiology
Desirable
- Post graduate experience and familiarity of UK NHS hospital system
- Experience of CT/US guided biopsy/ MSK Injections
- Experience of MDT
Teaching, Audit and Research
Essential
- Evidence of participation in Clinical audit
- Able to teach and support junior staff effectively.
Qualification(s) and Professional Training
Essential
- FRCR
- Full registration with General Medical Council Eligible to be included on the Specialist Register within 6 months of achieving CCT/CESR at the time of interview
Desirable
- MRCP, MRCS or other professional or higher qualification
