Job overview

Applications are invited for a Consultant Paediatric Urologist to join the team in Department of Paediatric Surgery and Urology at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.  This is a locum post initially, but will be a substantive post in the future.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital is part of Birmingham Women & Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.  The hospital covers a population of over 5 million and provides secondary, tertiary and quaternary services.  It is a designated Paediatric Major Trauma centre.

Paediatric Urology service covers paediatric urology, and general paediatric surgery: this includes minimally invasive paediatric urology, reconstructive urology, management of neuropathic bladder, endourology including stone management and the DSD MDT. It is one of the busiest Paediatric urology units in the UK.

Main duties of the job

The Department of Paediatric Surgery & Urology is made up of 13 Consultant Surgeons, 13 Tier 2 clinicians, 3 Clinical Nurses Specialist teams and 3 Physician Associates.

The Paediatric Urologists provide a service which encompasses all areas of Paediatric Urology practice except for Bladder Exstrophy / Epispadias. The Paediatric Urologists provide a separate Paediatric Urology on-call service to the Paediatric surgeons.

This is initially a locum  post in paediatric urology, with a plan to make this substantive.  The successful candidate will be expected to have passed CCT level and have completed at least 1 year in a recognised post CCT fellowship in Paediatric Urology.

This is a 10 PA job, including both elective and on-call commitments.  This post does not include the provision of any Specialist Paediatric Surgery.
